Policy-wise we think this is pretty reasonable and addresses what may well be a serious issue for children visiting prisoners.
As with all things however, there are exceptions, and keeping families together is crucial to the rehabilitation process and helps to prevent recidivism upon release. To that end, this fact sheet explains how to seek a review of visiting rights for those who feel that they have been unfairly or unnecessarily prevented from seeing their children.
You can find the fact sheet here. You can also find a list of all of our other fact sheets, which address a range of subjects, here. This list is constantly expanding. As well as being available online, these fact sheets are available by mail for prisoners who request them, and through the Prison Information Service that runs in Canterbury prisons.
