Fact Sheet 56 – Conviction and Sentencing Trends in New Zealand 1999-2008

Each year the Ministry of Justice publishes a report on the Conviction and Sentencing of Offenders in New Zealand for the previous decade. These reports are the primary source of information on trends through time. Below we look at some of the trends in the latest report covering the period from 1999-2008. This updates our earlier Factsheet 41, which summarised the findings of the 1995-2004 report. Unfortunately the Ministry has discontinued its practice of making the entire report available in hard copy or online. Instead a twelve-page overview is available on the Ministry’s website www.justice.govt.nz
